Information on gemstones and crystals

Carnelian is one of the several varieties of chalcedony.

Carnelian exists in colors that range from very pale yellow to intense red. Sometimes interesting and great colors like brownish orange are found.

Clarity wise carnelian is not a very clear stone and there is always a degree of turbidity (milkiness) that is one of the main characteristics of it.

Carnelian has been very popular and affordable since antiquity, though specimens of excellent color and quality are very precious.

The luster of carnelian is somewhat waxy and the hardness is around 7.
