Fossilized tree

Fossilized trees are fossils of trees that lived millions of years ago.

Fossilized tree, sometimes also called agatized tree, is formed by silicon dioxide replacing natural tissues of a tree during very very long periods of time.

The color of fossilized tree varies depending on metals that deposit along with silicon dioxide and can range from attractive shades of cream color to interesting black patterns.

Fossilized trees are sometimes cut and polished to be used in jewelry but are mostly used as decorative objects in intact or partly polished form.
