Information on gemstones and crystals

Phenacite (also called phenakite) is a very rare stone.

Phenacite is a beryllium silicate in crystalline form and its hardness on Mohs scale is 7.5 to 8.

Phenacite is is often found in form of very small crystals, usually a few millimeters in size, though specimens from Russia can be much larger.

The main phenacite suppliers are Burma, brazil and Russia.

Phenacite crystals are often very clear and lustrous, but are rarely used in jewelry. The main reasons are rarity and subsequently high price and the fact it is not a well known gem.

Phenacite is mainly a collectors' stone.
